BACTERIOLOGY-PARASITOLOGY LABORATORY
In our microbiology laboratory all types of sample are processed through
standard microbiological techniques. Skin and mucosal swabs, sputum, urine,
stool (stool culture and check for parasites - helminthes), genital
samples (sperm) and blood (hemoculture).

Microbiology laboratory also performs assessment of
genital swabs for the presence of Chlamydiae, Mycoplasm and Ureaplasm.
Today these three represent the main causes of both sexes sterility.
Diagnostics is performed with up-to-date tests that allow
isolation and identification of mentioned carriers, quantification and
determination of sensibility to antibiotics that are used for their
treatment.
All microbiology sampling,
except genital swabs can be performed in any of our objects.
Genital
swab sampling is done in the infirmary for genital swab
sampling in Njegoseva street No. 5, workdays from 16
to 17h, and Saturday from 13 to 14h.

Results are issued within 48 to 72 hours from the moment of bringing
the
sample to the laboratory,depending on the type of the sample. |

A state of the art analyzer, Phoenix 100, and the only one
in our country, is used for automatic identification of bacteria and for
determination of sensitivity to antibiotics - minimum inhibitory
concentration (MIC).
Swab
sampling
All samples for microbiology examinations should be taken before
administration of antibiotic therapy or at least 12h after local application
of an antiseptic remedy.
Control sample after antibiotic therapy should be taken after at least 3
days from the therapy end.
• Throat swab should be taken in the morning, before meal or
brushing your teeth. If the throat swab is taken during the day, the time gap
between food administration to swab sampling should be two hours. Throat
swab should not be sampled if the patient has an ongoing antibiotic therapy.
• Nose swab should be taken before the administration of antibiotic
therapy or
at least 12h after local application of an antiseptic
remedy.
• Perianal swab should be taken in the morning before
defecation. At least 12h before perianal swab sampling, anal region must not
be washed, greased or talc.
• Wound swab should be taken
before administering antibiotic therapy or at least 12h
after local application of an antiseptic remedy.
